Recycle Montana and Coca Cola sponsored the annual Recycle Montana Trash Dash September 17th through the 24th, 2022 awarding the participating teams cash prizes for picking up garbage and recyclables in areas across the state.

The teams weighed the “stuff” they collected and submitted the weights to Recycle Montana. The weights were compared across the board and winners were selected for the Most Recyclables and Heaviest Garbage. Cash was also awarded to the Teams for the Best Use of the Trash Dash Logo and the Most Unusual Garbage or Recyclable.

FFA groups across the state turned out for the week of the Trash Dash in their areas dominating every category of the event. Twin Bridges FFA won the Most Recyclables, collecting recyclables that included a car body, with a total weight of 2,825 pounds. Fairview FCCLA & FFA collected 110 pounds of garbage to win the Heaviest Garbage category.

The Fairview FCCLA & FFA won the Best Use of the Trash Dash logo by using it to advertise the event and encourage students to participate. The Plentywood FFA came in first place for the Most Unusual Garbage or Recyclable picking up a tote lid, fence post and a bucket of golf balls.

Other teams winning money included the Denton FFA, GROW (Glendive Recycles Our Waste), the Yellowstone Smokejumpers, Team Barrel Racers, and the Winifred Lady Outlaws Volleyball Team.
