In celebration of America Recycles Day, Recycle Montana is kicking off our newest education project: the development of mobile recycling trunks tailored to schools. Our first trunk is going to the SMART Schools Challenge. The SMART Schools Challenge is a collaborative effort between the Lieutenant Governor, Montana Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council, Montana Department of Environmental Quality, and additional partners from across Montana. The trunk is packed full of recycling-themed stuff including activities, lesson plans, digital resources, as well as hands-on recycled materials and products.
Our plan is to work with other libraries and learning centers across the state so that these trunks can be accessed by any local teacher or school. We’re starting small, but our long-term goal is to make several recycling trunks available statewide for teachers and educators to help raise awareness and get their students excited about recycling. Our trunk program is being spearheaded by one of our current board members, Rob Pudner, but we would love to see other organizations creating trunks of their own. We’ll even provide a blueprint and recycling materials to help make this happen. Feel free to contact us if you or someone you know would like to put together a mobile recycling trunk.
